what is compounded medication?

Compounded prescriptions are written by a physician, veterinarian, or other legally authorized prescriber and prepared by a pharmacist for an individual patient. This may be done for medically necessary reasons or for voluntary reasons.

Some patients require a specific dosage form or cannot swallow medications; we can then compound the medication into a topical gel, a liquid, or dissolvable tablet.

Some patients diets are very sensitive due to medical conditions such as Autism or Celiac Disease. We can compound their medication to avoid a non-essential ingredient or lessen exposure to substances that may aggravate their condition.

Some patients are allergic to dyes or certain inactive ingredients and we can compound their medication to avoid these substances.

Some patients require very specific doses that are not available commercially and we can compound their medication to any dose thier doctor prescribes.

Sometimes patients just require a little TLC and we can make their medications tastier by adding favorite flavors to their medicine.
